BRIDGE TO INDIA was founded in 2008 with the objective of bringing international renewable technology and business expertise to India. As the national investment promotion and facilitation agency, Invest India focuses on sector-specific investor targeting and development of new partnerships to enable sustainable investments in India. In addition to a core team that focuses on sustainable investments, Invest India also partners with substantial investment promotion agencies and multilateral organizations. Invest India also actively works with several Indian states to build capacity as well as bring in global best practices in investment targeting, promotion and facilitation areas.

Invest India, set up in 2009, is a non-profit venture under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.

The National Centre for Photovoltaic Research and Education (NCPRE) at IIT Bombay was launched in 2010 with funding from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) of the Government of India. The 5-year Phase I of NCPRE lasted from 2010 to 2015. Phase II started in 2016, and funding has now been extended till 2021.

The broad objectives of NCPRE are to provide R&D and education support for India’s ambitious 100 GW solar mission. NCPRE has 39 faculty members and over 120 research staff across 8 Departments at IIT Bombay working on various aspects of PV. Excellent laboratory facilities have been set up which are accessible to all NCPRE researchers. NCPRE conducts periodic short-term courses about the latest developments in the field of photovoltaics, for working engineers in industry as well as faculty and students from academic institutions.

The Centre is involved in both basic and applied research activities. These research activities include silicon solar cell fabrication and characterization, new materials for PV devices, energy storage and batteries for PV, development of power electronic interfaces for solar PV systems, and module characterization and reliability.

NCPRE has a strong programme of industry outreach. It has a successful Industry Affiliate Program (IAP), and undertakes projects and consultancy in its areas of expertise. It also provides services for characterization and measurement where available. NCPRE also explores the technology basis of solar energy policy, and brings out relevant reports in this area.

NCPRE is headed by Principal Investigators (PIs) Prof. Baylon G. Fernandes and Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki, and co-PIs Prof. Sagar Mitra and Prof. Anil Kottantharayil.

National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI) is an umbrella organization of all solar energy stakeholders of India. This apex solar organization works in the area of policy advocacy and is a National Platform for addressing all issues connected with solar energy growth in India. It consists of leading international, National and regional companies and includes Solar Developers, Manufacturers, EPC Contractors, Rooftop Installers, System integrators, and Balance of Plant suppliers and manufacturers, Small and Medium Enterprises and works in a complimentary manner with the Central and State Governments for achieving India’s national solar target of 100 GW by 2022.

“Solar Energy Corporation of India ltd” (SECI) is a CPSU under the administrative control of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), set up on 20th Sept, 2011 to facilitate the implementation of JNNSM and achievement of targets set therein. It is the only CPSU dedicated to the solar energy sector. It was originally incorporated as a section-25 (not for profit) company under the Companies Act, 1956.
However, through a Government of India decision, the company has recently been converted into a Section-3 company under the Companies Act, 2013. The mandate of the company has also been broadened to cover the entire renewable energy domain.
In the present outlook of the RE sector, especially solar energy, SECI has a major role to play in the sector’s development. The company is responsible for implementation of a number of schemes of MNRE, major ones being the VGF schemes for large-scale grid-connected projects under JNNSM, solar park scheme and grid-connected solar rooftop scheme, alongwith a host of other specialised schemes such as defence scheme, canal-top scheme, Indo-Pak border scheme etc. In addition, SECI has ventured into solar project development on turnkey basis for several PSUs. The company also has a power trading license and is active in this domain through trading of solar power from projects set up under the schemes being implemented by it.

Scientia Professor Martin Green started photovoltaic research at UNSW in 1974. Since this time UNSW has continued to be the world leader in photovoltaic research, holding the world record for the highest efficiency silicon solar cell for over three decades. Other world records include a 34.5% efficient one-Sun PV module, a 12.1% efficient large area perovskite solar cell, and a 10.9% efficient CZTS solar cell, all of which were achieved in 2016 or 2017. UNSW has world class research laboratories for early technology readiness level (TRL) research, complemented by a state of the art, on campus industrial R&D pilot line for silicon wafer solar cells focused on commercialising our technologies.

Our school is working on various technologies to further improve the energy conversion efficiency of silicon solar cells. A large part of this work is done at our solar industrial research facility (SIRF) and often done in close collaboration with the photovoltaic industry.
